If it were easy…
Oct 27, 2022
It's a beautiful night out tonight, not a cloud in the sky and the moon hiding herself away…
If it were easy, I'd walk right up to your door and you'd answer, flashing me that award-winning smile…
And we'd gather up some blankets — a whole heaping pile of them, because it is not warm — and head out atop a hill in the nearest field…
Where we'd snuggle up together, as close as can be (for warmth… after all, we are only friends…) and gaze at the stars.
Both Jupiter and Saturn are out tonight, chasing each other across the sky. I'd point them out as I accidentally found my other arm wrapping itself around you… just to make it easier for you to see where I'm pointing…
…
A bit later, as the horizon starts to brighten, we'd pile the blankets back in my trunk, and I'd drive you home. Pulling up to your garage, we'd sit quietly for a moment, hands mere inches apart…
If it were easy, I'd take that hand of yours in mine, then turn to gaze at the brightest star in my universe…
And we'd kiss. Awkward, like teenagers at their first high school homecoming dance… And it would be ok.
And I'd walk you to your door before giving you one last kiss, a bit better this time, a bit more confident.
Then we'd part, saying “See you tomorrow,” before one of us laughs and says “But, it's already tomorrow!”
And you'd go inside, and I'd stand staring at your door for a moment before driving home to try (and fail…) to catch an hour or two of sleep before getting up for work.
If it were easy…
Gods.
I wish it were easy.
